For me, teaching and effectively communicating my research is a core part of who I want to be as a scientist. I believe that any person, regardless of their background, can and should be able to succeed in the STEM fields, if they so desire, and that it is our job as scientists to help make STEM more inclusive.

Teaching

I believe that all students have the ability to succeed if they are given the tools they need. My teaching philosophy is built on providing my students with those tools and a safe and supportive environment where they can learn, ask questions, make mistakes, and grow. I also recognize that each student is a unique person with a unique academic path and that one way of teaching or learning may not work for everyone. If something is not working for you or you have suggestions or feedback, please reach out!

Outreach

I believe that engaging with those outside of our academic research bubbles is crucial. Scientific research purely for scientific curiosity is a wonderful part of being a scientist, but I also believe that as scientists it is our job to find ways to bring our work to the people that may be impacted by it or simply interested in it. For me, talking with many different types of people about my work brings perspective and meaning to it, beyond the enjoyment it brings me. If you are interested in hearing about my work or talking generally about science, please reach out!
